I watched another discussion last night about the alleged dangers of Global Warming. I don’t know about you but what I find particularly disturbing and suspicious is the lack of hard data from those warning of this alleged danger. The spokesman last night was with one of those envoirnmental groups who advocate everything and anything “green” and are in love with the idea of cap and tax on carbon emissions. Of course it was pointed out that the speaker had a real interest in promoting this agenda. He makes over $500,000.00 a year as the head of his group. If the danger turned out to be a phantom then they would not raise any money for advocacy and he wouldn’t have that cushy job in D. C. But that is only an irritant. I don’t oppose folks making money even lobbyists. It is insulting to the public to attempt to treat us like boobs. They are even doing it at the school level now with the courses taught to the kids. The major problem is that those in favor of draconian measures to save the world never give us the data to support their conclusions. Indeed they get very angry and upset with anyone who deigns to raise any questions at all.
You must have seen the recent interview with Gore where questions were raised about the accuracy of his allegations and the assertions in his infamous movie. He was downright hostile to the questioner and flatly stated that he would not debate the legitimacy of the data and conclusion that Global Warming is occurring due to the activities of mankind. He considers himself an intellect yet he opposes the very foundation of intellectual inquiry–vigorous challenge, questions, replication of testing, exp0sure of all data and peer comments and critique. What is he afraid of by such an examination? Surely you have noticed that all those in that camp shut off any attempt at discussion or challenge.
I for one don’t want conclusions. I want the data and I will reach my own conclusions thank you very much. I am especially suspicious of someone who just got a half billion dollar loan from Government, Inc. to build an electric car that will cost about $90,000.00 and it is teamed up with a foreign entity to boot. I thought he and his kind were all about American jobs. Why isn’t that car at least being 100% American built?
When I am told the earth has warmed in the last decade I don’t want to merely take someone’s word for that. I want the raw information. Where did they take the readings? Above ground or ground level or both? Where the readings consistent as to time of day? Then how about areas where the temperatures have demonstrably been cooler the last few years, are they being included in the study? You and I both know of our own knowledge that the upper mid west went through a real cool spell about 8/9 years ago and then had about two really hot summers. It got near 100 even in Minneapolis. But then the last two summers have been exceptionally cool there and all across the eastern seaboard. You don’t have to ask Al Gore ask any friend of yours who lives in New York or Vermont about the last couple of summers. Speaking of New York did that test the temperatures only in New York City or did they include temps from Albany and Buffalo?
What credence have these smar folks given to the El Nino effect and also to the solar flares and sun spots that so clearly dominate our weather? The Sun more than any single factor controls our weather on earth. No matter what we do or don’t do the Sun can change everything with its cycles and unexpected events. It does go through periods of unrest and activity of its own. Many of those cycles have been known for some time and the effects on our atmosphere are apparent to even the scientifically challenged.
It is very troubling that the UN panel on this global warming issue got so mad at the Chamber of Commerce and made headlines berating it for raising questions. The UN acted like they were a bunch of troglodytes and committing religious heresy. Lost in all the headlines was the simple fact that the Chamber had simply asked that the UN panel make public the science and data behind their conclusions for the Copenhagen meeting this December. That really doesn’t sound unreasonable to me and if those alarmist are correct then why in heavens name aren’t they in fact eager to share all their data? The facts are the facts and if they support the global warming theory then the UN should be delighted for those facts to receive all the publicity they can.
I don’t like being preached to and I don’t like being given conclusions by those that consider themselves my betters. I love clean air and crave clean water. I don’t believe in polluting our envoirnment. I am glad we don’t all burn coal in our heaters and stoves any more and have those smog filled days like they did in Dickens’ ear in London. Before we rush over the cliff like lemmings I want some really hard facts and cogent arguments to support the vast changes proposed that will badly damage our current economic system. It won’t affect me much at my age but I am conerned for my kids and grandkids. I do have tremendous faith in mankind and our ability to innovate. We will develop a new power source at some point and we have natural gas galore which would greatly reduce emissions and our dependence on foreign oil. The waters may rise, they have before and probably will again. We will probably have another ice age at some point also. We travel on mother earth we can’t control her every move. We have survived by our ability to adapt, see Darwin, and that is wher we should place our faith for the envoirnmental future.
